If you could see your music, what would it look like?

If I could SEE my music, it would look like a natural landscape back home on White Bear First Nation. Gravel road, marshes in the distance to skate on in winter, green hills to explore, and backyards ready for a fire and evening visits with a small stereo playing 90s grunge and classic albums.

What is the most crucial equipment for your music-making?

The most crucial equipment for my music making. Bare bones includes: My acoustic guitar, notebook, pencil, and my iPhone to record scratch work to take home and produce in the studio properly.

What is your favourite home cooked meal?

This is a toss up between Holiday dinners with turkey, or home made soup we call “good soup” and just know what it means.

Tell us a handful of songs that you've been enjoying lately.

I’ll try to narrow it down to a few recent listens. I absorb a lot of artists and they become favourites.

1. Clapton - Lonely Stranger (unplugged). A real influence on my blues style playing and approach to the guitar as an instrument.

2. Springsteen - Letter to You.

3. Tonic - Open Up Your Eyes. A real good gritty classic.

4. All songs by my northern brother Terry Uyarak  (most played is “Inuit Nunangat”)

5. Kelly Fraser - "Fight for the right". Her energetic spirit and cultural pride are captured in this song.

6. Nadjiwan - “Re-entry".  Great songwriting and layering by my close friend Marc.

7. Hemingway Corner - "Love, love, love". A classic acoustic album I’ve always enjoyed.

8. Derek Miller - "Come n Get Your Love". Great guitar playing and uplifting style by a great guitarist.

9. Iskwé - “The Unforgotten". Powerful songwriting by my close friend and cousin. Always a fave.

10. Novo Amor - “Colourway".  Ok, this one made me cry the first time I heard it. I was driving home from my son’s high school graduation by myself while he went to celebrate his grad dance. I heard his 8yr old voice say “Hi Dad” all over again.

Dale Mac, Roots/Rock/Blues songwriter, is from White Bear First Nation in Saskatchewan. The storytelling in his lyrics and driving music are both backed by his soulful and energetic guitars. Whether performing acoustic roots in intimate venues, amp driven blues, or rock based stage shows, Dale’s guitar writing is also the energy behind his range of songwriting. He has two releases under his belt. His first release under the alias "Kinder Scout" (2015) was followed up by the successful EP "American Horse" (2017) under his name Dale Mac. His upcoming release "Pejuta Road" blends his threatened Nakota language, hand drumming, with contemporary guitar driven storytelling.
