Last Birds
Last Birds is the offspring of Canadian Folk Music Award nominated artists, Lindsay Arnold and Mike Davis. Using their small Canadian prairie town as a backdrop, Last Birds weave together rural legends and current day experiences to form a contemporary prairie gothic. Their songs veer away from overly romanticized views of small town life to peer into in the dark corners of the local bar, peek into the windows of an abandoned house down the street and pine for something or someone beyond the veil. Their “two voices, two guitars” approach to live performances is steeped in early country folk influences, providing a storytelling experience known to silence the room in the best possible way.
The couple formed Last Birds in November of 2019 and quickly gained momentum. The duo was nominated for multiple awards in 2021 and 2022, including Saskatchewan Music Award's Roots/Folk Artist of the year as well as Saskatchewan Country Music Association’s Group and Alternative Country Album of the Year. Their debut EP, released in April 2021, was well received and reached #1 on Kansas Public Radio while spending several weeks on the Roots Music Report charts for Top Folk Album and Top Canadian Folk Album.
Mike and Lindsay have been writing and performing together for only 4 years; however, the couple has a lifetime of creative experience behind them. Lindsay has worked as avisual artist and filmmaker for over 20 years. Her paintings, drawings and videos have beenexhibited at galleries and film festivals throughout North America and beyond. Mike has been working as a musician since the age of 16. He has a wealth of live performance experience as a solo artist and band member. The two got their start writing and performing together in 2018 with the trio, Hook & Nail. The first album they every worked on together, Ghosts of Taylorton, won Hook & Nail a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for Emerging Artist of the Year.
Last Birds call the tiny village of North Portal, Saskatchewan, home. They live with their young daughter in a house they built with their own hands.
